In 1942, inspired by the freedom movement, GCMMF was founded. A small town in the state of Gujarat in western India saw a huge shift of power when farmers fought to be free of exploitation by middlemen.

A co-operative world vision

Co-operatives gain momentum

The Indian government’s ministry of co-operation has empowered India's co-operative sector, by establishing two multi-state co-operatives – NCEL & NCOL.

National Co-operative Exports Ltd (NCEL)

Set up as an umbrella organization to promote the co-operative sector’s exports and get better prices for its members. GCMMF (Amul Federation) is its chief promoter, with IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED and NCDC.

National Co-operative Organics Ltd (NCOL)

Set up to promote organic farming, by ensuring better prices and market access for farmers through co-operatives country-wide. NCOL comprises GCMMF (Amul Federation), NDDB, NAFED, NCDC and NCCF.
